Mobile & D.O.T Service users in ACT, Tasmania, Victoria, NSW, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia are experiencing major problems with the Telstra network.
The outage hit shortly after midday AEDT after a fire broke out at an exchange on Sydney’s lower north shore.
Telstra tweeted that services were “beginning to restore” but that they were “investigating a related issue impacting SMS messaging”.
A fire at one of our exchanges is impacting some mobile and fixed services. We're working to resolve ASAP. Thanks for your patience.

Telstra customers took to Social Media to express their annoyance:
@Telstra how long before this is rectified? How are we expected to run a business if we can't call? No service in Turramurra or Kellyville

@Telstra Any estimation of when this problem may be fixed? Need my phone for work and if it not coming on soon I will go home 🙃

Telstra experienced a number of national outages back in February 2016, after human error left millions without mobile phone and data services.
Techs were sent to the Chatswood Exchange in Sydney to make a full assessment. They will provide more info as soon as it’s available.
We will post any significant updates as they come in.
